1,980 kcal/day is the arithmetic illustration: 2,200 minus 10% (220 kcal). This does not establish nutritional adequacy or a suitable intake for an individual.

A scenario is not a safe-intake assessment

Scenario intake = estimated maintenance × (1 − reduction percentage ÷ 100). A percentage cannot establish that someone is adequately nourished. This calculator does not invent a universal safe calorie floor or certify the calculated intake as suitable.

Maintenance estimates can be wrong. Hunger, energy, training, clinical needs and changes over time matter. A low intake is not made appropriate by meeting a calculator number. If you are under 18, pregnant, breastfeeding, have an eating-disorder concern or need clinical nutrition care, use individualized support.

Why there is no promised weight-loss date

Body-weight change is dynamic: energy expenditure and body composition can change, and short-term scale changes include water. Dividing a deficit by a fixed calories-per-pound number does not reliably predict an individual timeline. Use a qualified professional or the NIDDK planner where appropriate.
